Top 10 Aphrodisiacs
  1. Respect - There are a variety ways to please your partner sexually. And the most meaningful sexual relationships begin with respect.
  2. Working Out - A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and can certainly give more confidence in how we look to the opposite sex. Also a healthy lifestyle can combat obesity, depression and fatigue which can lead to sexual problems.
  3. Psychoanalysis - Sex Therapists can help 'unblock' sexual dysfunction by dealing with stress, fatigue and depression. By dealing with these the libido can be increased.
  4. Viagra - Viagra increases blood flow to the penis and blocks the blood from leaving, helping men maintain an erection. Therefore it is not an aphrodisiac, but requires sexual stimulation to work.
  5. Yohimbe, Tribulus and Maca - These are the top three plants in several traditional herbs under study for their aphrodisiac properties. Any combination of these might be pulverized, capsulated and sold as "natural Viagra."
  6. Oysters - Oysters contain high levels of zinc which are essential in the production of sperm. Raw oysters are also high in D-aspartic acid and N-methyl-D-aspartate, which are shown to have increased testosterone levels in one study on male rats.
  7. Chocolate - Chocolate has phenylethylamine and serotonin, two chemicals that light up pleasure areas in the brain in a similar way that sex makes us feel good. Unfortunatley the levels produced when eating chocolate are too low to be an aphrodisiac.
  8. Alcohol - Alcohol, a false aphrodisiac, merely lowers inhibitions and leads to decisions that can be irrational.
  9. Spanish Fly - The beetle contains a caustic acid-like juice called cantharidin. When this stuff is ingested and eventually excreted, it causes a burning and swelling sensation in the urinary tract that to be sexual stimulation
  10. Rhino Horn - Rhino horn is primarily fibrous tissue with fairly large amounts of calcium and phosphorus. Since low levels of these minerals can lead to weakness and general fatigue, taking large doses of these elements could increase stamina if levels were low to begin with. It's understandable, then, how it could have historically appeared to be an aphrodisiac.
